The Cooper Hotel and its affiliated companies, subsidiaries, and properties (“The Cooper” Company” or “We”) take the utmost care to ensure that the information we obtain from guests, restaurant patrons, retail visitors and online visitors, used only for the purposes we describe. This statement applies to our website, thebhc.com and digital services, and BHC properties, including The Charleston Place, The Cooper, Sorelle, 141 Meeting Street and The Riviera Theater.  In this Privacy Policy, we refer to guests, restaurant patrons, retail visitors and online visitors as “you” and “your”. This policy describes the types of information we may collect from you, or that you may provide, and our practice for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting and disclosing that information. It will inform you on the following:

  • What personally identifiable information is collected from you through the website, how it is used, and with whom it may be shared.
  • What choices are available to you regarding the use of your data.
  • The security procedures in place to protect against the misuse of your information.
  • How you can correct any inaccuracies in the information.

Personal Information Collected when Communicating with Us. 

You may wish to submit a message or question to The Cooper  using our online forms or to subscribe to our email list using our sign-up feature. In response, we may ask for information, such as your name, email, and ZIP code. In the event you opt to provide us with this information, we will respond to you regarding the reason you contacted us. 

If you choose to subscribe to The Cooper Contact List using the sign-up feature, please know that all communications will provide an opt-out button to allow you to choose not to participate in future online marketing. In deciding whether to join such lists, please note that they are only used for The Cooper purposes or in joint promotions with partners to tell you about specials, new products or services, events, or changes to this privacy policy.  We do not sell, rent or share any of your personal information on such lists with any other party, including any third-party joint promoters, nor use it for unapproved commercial purposes. Information We Collect Through Automatic Data Collection Technologies

In addition to the potential need to communicate with you about your stay(s) at a BHC property, we always seek to improve our online booking, marketing and other services and may, therefore, collect and analyze information from and/or about your computer and about your visits to and use of this website (including your IP address, geographical location, browser type and version, operating system type and version, referral source, length of visit, page views, website navigation paths and service usage) to that end.

The Cooper uses cookies, which is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. We will use cookies to keep track of you whilst you navigate the website. Cookies will be deleted from your computer when you close your browser. Persistent cookies will remain stored on your computer until deleted, or until they reach a specified expiry date. The Cooper uses Google Analytics to evaluate the user experience of the website. Personal Information Collected for Guest Reservations 

Personal information collected during the reservation process may be used to communicate with you about your stay(s) at one of our properties. Guest Reservations collects personal information as outlined in this Privacy Policy. In particular, Guest Reservations may collect the following personal information about you: 

  • Information You Provide to Us: We collect information from you when you voluntarily provide it to us, such as your name, email address, telephone number(s), or address; 
  • Content You Make Public.: We may collect information from you that you publicly upload, such as when you post a review or comment; 
  • Transaction and Payment Information: We may gather your payment card information from you when you make a reservation through the Site or contact our Reservations Team; 
  • Device/Internet Connection Information: When you use the Site, we automatically gather information made available by your web browser, internet service provider, and device, depending on your settings; 
  • Internet Activity Information: We may collect information about your browsing history, search history, and information regarding your interaction with a particular website, application, or advertisement, including the Site; 
  • Geolocation Information: We may collect geolocation information, such as your address or IP address; and 
  • Other/Inference Information: We may collect other information from you, such as when you contact us or if we create a profile using the information obtained above.

Guest Reservations uses the information we’ve collected from you for business purposes, including for security, to fulfill your orders or requests, to improve products and services, to improve the Site, to personalize user experience, to communicate with users, and to create deidentified aggregate information, as well as for commercial purposes, including to advertise to you, to build a profile, and to advertise to others. Guest Reservations shares your personal information as directed by you, as outlined in this Privacy Policy. In particular, Guest Reservations may share your personal information to the following third parties: (1) companies related to our booking platform, including the respective hotel with which you book, as mentioned above, (2) service providers that allow us to operate, such as payment processors and customer management, for the foregoing business purposes, (3) affiliated entities and, if any, entities related to any subsequent acquisition, merger, sale, or other change of control, for the foregoing business purposes, (4) government officials and private parties to comply with legal obligations and prevent illegal, fraudulent, or injurious actions, (5) advertising partners, such as through the referenced cookies, for the foregoing commercial purposes, and (6) other consumers to advertise any public content, such as reviews or comments, that you make public. Guest Reservations does not sell personal information.

Please be aware that third-party websites available through links on our websites each have separate privacy and data collection practices. We have no control, responsibility or liability for these third-party websites or their applicable policies or content. BHC cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you disclose on third-party sites. Additionally, our websites include social media features, such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook Like buttons. These features may collect your IP address, and which page you are visiting on our websites, and may set a cookie to enable the feature to function properly.

How Long We Keep Your Personal Information

Generally, we will keep your personal information while you have an account with us or while we are providing services to you. Thereafter, we will keep your personal information for as long as is necessary:

  • To ensure that we can complete transactions related to services;
  • To respond to any questions, complaints or claims made by you or on your behalf;
  • To improve our business operations;
  • To show that we treated you fairly; or
  • To keep records required by law.

We will not retain your personal information for longer than necessary for the purposes set out in this policy. Different retention periods apply for different types of personal information and the reasons for processing. In the event that your personal information is deidentified, or anonymized, we will not make any efforts to reidentify such information.

CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS

This third-party use of data may be viewed as a “sale” of Personal Information under California law, to the extent any data used for targeted advertising purposes reasonably can be linked to you, your device or your household. As a California resident, you may have the right to opt-out of any such “sale” of Personal Information through targeted advertising by contacting us with the contract information below.

We will attempt to provide you with the requested information within 45 days following receipt of your request. To protect your privacy and security, we may take reasonable steps to help verify your identify before granting access, making corrections, providing you with information, or deleting information.

Children Under the Age of 16

Our Website is not intended for children under 16 years of age. No one under age 16 may provide any information to the Website. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. Use of  The Cooper website, websites of any of our affiliated companies, subsidiaries or properties, any of our products or services, and/or registering for our products or services signifies your consent, as well as the consent of the company for whom you use our website and whose information you submit (if any) to this online Privacy Policy, including the collection and use of information by BHC, as described in this statement, and signifies agreement to the terms of use for our website. Continued access and use of our website without acceptance of the terms of this Privacy Policy relieves BHC from responsibility to the user.

CHANGES TO PRIVACY POLICY

We may amend this Privacy Policy at any time by posting the amended terms on the Site. You are responsible for checking this Privacy Policy when you visit the Site to review the current policy. Guest Reservations will use the information collected on the Site in accordance with the Privacy Policy under which the information was collected.
